Questions, answered
What lights are required for a helipad?
A compliant helipad needs green perimeter (TLOF) lights, a lit “Circle + H” (TD/PM), a heliport beacon, an illuminated windsock, surface floodlighting, a status light and aviation obstruction lights on the building — to DGCA and ICAO standards.
Is helipad lighting mandatory for night operations?
Yes. For night or poor-visibility operations the full lit scheme is required, with the lit Circle-and-H as the primary landing aid (ICAO Annex 14 Vol II / CAP 437).
What colour are helipad perimeter lights?
Green. The perimeter (TLOF edge) lights are green and spaced no more than 3 m apart on an elevated helipad.
Do rooftop helipads need obstruction lights?
Yes. A rooftop or elevated helipad and the tallest parts of the building need red (night) / white (day) aviation obstruction lights per the height clearance.
Which standards apply to helipad lighting in India?
DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR Section 4, Series B) and ICAO Annex 14 Volume II — plus CAP 437 for elevated / helideck-style pads.
Do you design and install, or only supply the lights?
Both. Jainsons Lights offers end-to-end helipad lighting — design, certified fixtures, installation at height, commissioning, certification and ongoing maintenance.
