The 254 nm germicidal wavelength disrupts the DNA & RNA of bacteria, viruses and mould so they can no longer reproduce. A compact 1.5 ft tube with a genuine Philips UV-C lamp and Philips driver, in our own fitting — built and backed by Jainsons Lights since 1978.

How UV-C works

UV-C is short-wavelength ultraviolet light. At 254 nanometres — the wavelength this Philips lamp emits — it penetrates the cell of a microbe and damages the DNA and RNA inside it. With that genetic code disrupted, bacteria, viruses and mould spores in the air and on exposed surfaces can no longer reproduce, so the cabin is left disinfected after a cycle. It works as a physical mechanism, not a spray or chemical — there is no residue and no fragrance, only light doing the work in an empty, sealed room.

Use in an empty, closed room only

UV-C is powerful — that is exactly why it works, and exactly why it must never reach skin or eyes. Operating it responsibly is simple:

  • Clear the cabin or room of all people, pets and plants before switching on.
  • Close the door and run the cycle from outside the room.
  • Never look at the lit tube and never expose skin or eyes to it.
  • Ventilate briefly, then the space is ready to use again.

This is a surface-and-air disinfection device for empty rooms. It is not a medical device and not a cure for any illness.

Your questions, answered

Is this a genuine Philips lamp, or a copy?
The lamp is a genuine Philips (Signify) UV-C tube from original stock, driven by a genuine Philips driver, in a fitting we build ourselves at Jainsons. You can verify the Philips branding on the tube itself. Counterfeit UV-C tubes are common in this category — buying from a 1978-established distributor with a GST invoice and four physical showrooms is your protection against that.
Is it safe? Will it harm my staff?
It is completely safe when used as intended: in an empty, closed cabin or room with no people, pets or plants inside, switched on from outside. UV-C must never reach skin or eyes directly. Treat it like a disinfection cycle — run it before opening or after closing, ventilate briefly, then the space is ready. It is not a medical device and not a cure for any illness.
Is this 15W 1.5 ft tube enough for a full room?
This is the entry, small-cabin size — ideal for a salon station, dental cabin, small office or home kitchen. For a full room the standard is the 36W 4 ft tube at one tube per 100 sq ft of floor area, so a 300 sq ft room needs three 36W tubes. Not sure which to pick? How long do I run it for?
Run the cabin sealed and empty for each cycle. For a full room the standard is the 36W 4 ft tube run for about 2–3 hours, with one tube per 100 sq ft — to cover a bigger space, add one more 36W tube for each extra 100 sq ft rather than leaning on a single tube. Always run it with the space empty and the door closed.
Do I get a GST invoice?
Yes. Every order ships with a GST invoice in your business name, so the tax can flow into your books as input credit. Tell us your GSTIN at order time and we'll bill it correctly.
What's the warranty, and what about the lamp?
Our own fitting carries a 1-year warranty. The Philips TUV UV-C lamp is rated for about 9,000 hours of useful life — it's a consumable, like any tube, so once it passes that its germicidal output has dropped and the tube should be replaced (even if it still lights up). We stock replacements, so re-ordering is straightforward.
Does UV-C replace cleaning, or cure infections?
No. UV-C is an added layer of surface-and-air disinfection for an empty space — it works alongside normal cleaning, it doesn't replace wiping down visible dirt. It is not a medical device and not a treatment or cure for any illness or infection. Think of it as a disinfection cycle for the cabin itself, not a health treatment for people.
