The 254 nm germicidal wavelength disrupts the DNA & RNA of bacteria, viruses and mould so they can no longer reproduce. The smallest tube in our range — a genuine Philips UV-C lamp on our own driver, in our own fitting — built and backed by Jainsons Lights since 1978. The UV-C bulb is included.

How UV-C works

UV-C is short-wavelength ultraviolet light. At 254 nanometres — the wavelength this Philips lamp emits — it penetrates the cell of a microbe and damages the DNA and RNA inside it. With that genetic code disrupted, bacteria, viruses and mould spores on exposed surfaces and in the trapped air of a closed cabinet or box can no longer reproduce, so the space is left disinfected after a cycle. It works as a physical mechanism, not a spray or chemical — there is no residue and no fragrance, only light doing the work in an empty, sealed space.

Use in an empty, closed space only

UV-C is powerful — that is exactly why it works, and exactly why it must never reach skin or eyes. Operating it responsibly is simple:

  • Clear the cabinet, box or room of all people, pets and plants before switching on.
  • Close the cabinet door or lid and run the cycle from outside.
  • Never look at the lit tube and never expose skin or eyes to it.
  • Ventilate briefly, then the space is ready to use again.

This is a surface-and-air disinfection device for empty enclosed spaces. It is not a medical device and not a cure for any illness.

Is this a genuine Philips lamp, or a copy?
The lamp is a genuine Philips (Signify) UV-C tube from original stock, paired with our own driver and in a fitting we build ourselves at Jainsons. You can verify the Philips branding on the tube itself. Counterfeit UV-C tubes are common in this category — buying from a 1978-established distributor with a GST invoice and four physical showrooms is your protection against that.
Is it safe? Will it harm my staff?
It is completely safe when used as intended: inside an empty, closed cabinet, box or room with no people, pets or plants exposed, switched on from outside. UV-C must never reach skin or eyes directly. Treat it like a disinfection cycle — run it with the cabinet shut, ventilate briefly, then the space is ready. It is not a medical device and not a cure for any illness.
Can this 8W tube disinfect a whole room?
No — this is the smallest tube in the range, built for small enclosed spaces like wardrobes, cabinets, shoe-racks and DIY boxes, not open rooms. For a room, plan one Philips 36W 4 ft tube for every 100 sq ft of floor area, run sealed and empty for about 2–3 hours, adding one more 36W tube per extra 100 sq ft. Does the UV-C bulb come included?
Yes — the genuine Philips 8W UV-C bulb is included with this fitting, so it's ready to use out of the box. Run it with the cabinet, box or drawer shut and empty for a disinfection cycle, and keep skin and eyes away from the lit tube.
Do I get a GST invoice?
Yes. Every order ships with a GST invoice in your business name, so the tax can flow into your books as input credit. Tell us your GSTIN at order time and we'll bill it correctly.
What's the warranty, and what about the lamp?
Our own fitting carries a 1-year warranty. The Philips TUV UV-C lamp is rated for about 9,000 hours of useful life — it's a consumable, like any tube, so once it passes that its germicidal output has dropped and the tube should be replaced (even if it still lights up). We stock replacements, so re-ordering is straightforward.
Does UV-C replace cleaning, or cure infections?
No. UV-C is an added layer of surface-and-air disinfection for an empty enclosed space — it works alongside normal cleaning, it doesn't replace wiping down visible dirt. It is not a medical device and not a treatment or cure for any illness or infection. Think of it as a disinfection cycle for the cabinet or box itself, not a health treatment for people.
