How many tubes and how long do I need?

The simple rule (medical / hospital / dental / professional use):

1 × 4-foot 36W tube per 100 sqft of floor area, running for 2-3 hours, gives a good disinfection cycle.

You can trade tubes for time and vice versa. The total UV-C dose is roughly:

Disinfection dose = number of tubes × wattage × run time

• More tubes → less time needed. Two 36W tubes in a 200 sqft room reaches the same dose as one 36W tube in 100 sqft, in the same run time.
• Fewer tubes → more time needed. One 18W tube in a 100 sqft room needs roughly twice the run time of a 36W tube to deliver the same dose.
• Line of sight matters. UV-C does not pass through fabric, paper, or solid objects. Position the lamp(s) so all surfaces are exposed.

Common scenarios

• Hospital ward / OT / dental clinic, ~100 sqft: 1 × 36W (4 ft) tube, 2-3 hours.
• Salon / restaurant kitchen, ~150 sqft: 1 × 36W tube run 3 hours, or 1 × 18W (2 ft) tube run overnight.

Using this tube inside a custom UV-C disinfection box

We used to sell ready-made UV-C disinfection boxes (60 L, 30 L, etc.) but no longer stock them. Most customers now buy our UV-C tube fitting and assemble a box themselves to fit their exact application:

• Mail and parcels: a simple cardboard or wooden box + a small 8W or 11W tube works for routine intake disinfection.
• Tools, utensils, dental instruments: a small metal cabinet + 8W to 18W tube depending on cabinet size.
• Currency, wallets, mobile phones, keys: a small enclosure + 8W tube, 10-15 minute cycle.
• Larger items (kitchen tools, returns processing): 18W or 30W tube in a custom box.

How to use this UV-C tube fitting

1. Remove the plastic protective diffuser from the top of the fitting before first use.
2. Plug into a 220-240V AC socket.
3. Vacate the room or close the cabinet — no people, pets, or plants should be present while the lamp is running.
4. Run for 45-60 minutes for routine large-room disinfection.
5. Switch off, then ventilate the space for 5 minutes before re-entering.

For ceiling-mounted or wall-mounted installation in showrooms, salons, or hospitals, any local electrician can install on a standard 220-240V circuit. For portable use, plug into any standard Indian socket.

Important safety

• UV-C radiation is harmful to skin and eyes. Never operate the lamp with people, pets, or plants present.
• Do not look directly at a lit UV-C lamp, even briefly. Use timers or remote switches.
• Ventilate the room for a few minutes after switching off, before re-entering (UV-C can produce trace ozone).
• UV-C will degrade plastics, rubber seals, and certain fabrics over long exposure. Remove sensitive items first.
• This is a UV-C light fitting — not a medical device, not a substitute for chemical disinfection or hand hygiene.
• Keep out of reach of children. Store in original packaging when not in use.

What this UV-C tube is NOT for

To save you a wrong purchase — this fitting is not designed for any of the following uses:

• Not a drinking-water purifier UV lamp. Drinking-water UV needs a sealed inline chamber where water flows through. This is an open fitting for surface and air disinfection. (Note: it CAN be used inside drained empty water tanks to sterilize the interior surface — that is a different use case from inline drinking-water purification.)
• Not a plant grow light. UV-C kills plant cells. Plants need UV-A or full-spectrum LED grow lights.
• Not a nail dryer or gel polish lamp. Those are UV-A (365-405 nm), completely different from UV-C (254 nm).
• Not a mosquito killer or insect trap. Those use UV-A blue light to attract insects.
• Not a fish-tank or aquarium inline UV sterilizer. Those are sealed flow-through UV-C units, not open fittings.
• Not for room illumination. UV-C is invisible and harmful to eyes. You cannot use this to light a room.

Is it safe to be in the room while the UV-C tube is on?
