The brief

The client gave us a raw ceiling — a fluted wood-panel surface in their swimming pool area — plus a reference image of the look they wanted (random-yet-balanced linear LED strips integrated into the ceiling grooves) and a rough hand-sketched dimension drawing. They asked us to design the lighting pattern from scratch and verify whether the profile light they planned to install would actually deliver the lux levels a swimming pool area needs.

How we approached it

Two-stage work. First we designed the bespoke pattern: light lines in standard lengths from 0.75 m to 2.5 m, laid across the main ceiling zone (about 10 m by 3 m) in a random-yet-balanced arrangement that continues the rhythm of the fluted panels without looking machine-perfect. Then we ran the full design through DIALux to verify the light at the working plane (0.8 m above the floor) and at floor level. Where the original spacing left dark patches, we adjusted positions. The client's choice of light, the Eliante flexible silicon profile, was retained. The pattern math was ours.

The light we used

Eliante linear flexible silicon profile: IP65 weatherproof rating for moisture-rich poolside conditions, 24 V DC constant voltage, 3000 K warm white, CRI 80. Flush-mounted into the ceiling recesses, the profile sits within the wood panel, so the light reads as part of the architecture, not as a separate fitting.

What the calculation showed

DIALux showed the pool hall above our 500 lux target. The light is strongest in the middle of the hall and eases towards the walls. The DIALux report, the pattern marking plan, the AutoCAD layout and the isolux plans were delivered for site execution.

• Working plane (0.8 m): 595 lux average, against a 500 lux target
• Lowest and highest on the working plane: 296 and 765 lux
• Floor level: 546 lux average
• Uniformity (lowest ÷ average): 0.50
• Mounting height: 4.0 to 5.25 m, following the curved ceiling
