The brief

Unity Group's gym had a fixture layout and a lighting plan already drawn up by their interior team. The question they brought to us wasn't “design us a lighting plan” — it was sharper: will the lights we've selected actually deliver the lux levels a gym is supposed to have? The target was an average of at least 500 lx on the workout floor, and the client wanted that number verified before placing the order.

How we approached it

We took the client's intended layout into DIALux, modelled the gym geometry (a single 119 m² open floor under a 6.1 m ceiling), and simulated the photometric output of the proposed Eliante RETAIL MULTIPLE LIGHT — the same way an independent lighting auditor would. The simulation computed perpendicular illuminance on a working plane 0.8 m above the floor and on the floor itself. Where the original spacing showed dark patches or uneven distribution, we re-positioned the lights. The light choice was retained — what changed was the placement, which is where most “looks fine on paper” gym layouts actually fail.

The light we used

Eliante RETAIL MULTIPLE LIGHT — two light modules in one housing, 3000 K warm white, CRI 90, 40° beam angle, mounted in the 6.1 m ceiling.

What the calculation showed

Working plane at 0.8 m: 687 lx average against the 500 lx target — comfortably above it. On the floor itself: 661 lx average. The full DIALux report — lighting layout plan, isolux contours and per-surface calculations — was issued to Unity Group so they could approve the plan with confidence and place the order.
