The brief

Unity Group's gym had a fixture layout and a lighting plan already drawn up by their interior team. The question they brought to us wasn't “design us a lighting plan” — it was sharper: will the lights we've selected actually deliver the lux levels a gym is supposed to have? Gymnasium standards call for around 500 lx average illuminance on the workout floor with reasonable uniformity, and the client wanted that number verified before placing the order for 53 fixtures.

How we approached it

We took the client's intended layout into Dialux, modeled the gym geometry (single 119 m² open floor), and simulated the photometric output of the proposed Eliante RETAIL MULTIPLE LIGHT 2×15W fixture — the same way an independent lighting auditor would. The simulation computed perpendicular illuminance across the working plane at 0.8 m (standing workout height) and at the floor calculation surface. Where the original spacing showed dark patches or uneven distribution, we re-positioned fixtures until uniformity hit gym-suitable levels. The fixture choice was retained — what changed was the placement math, which is where most “looks fine on paper” gym layouts actually fail.

Fixtures used

53 × Eliante RETAIL MULTIPLE LIGHT 2×15W — 30 W each (two 15 W modules per housing), 2,250 lm output, 75 lm/W efficacy, 3000 K warm white, CRI 90, 40° beam angle. Total connected load 1,590 W delivering 119,250 lumens to a 119 m² floor.

Verified outcome

Calculation surface: 687 lx average against the 500 lx gymnasium target — comfortably above standard. Working plane at standing height: 661 lx average. Uniformity index 0.41 means no rep position lands in a dark zone. Min / Max: 269 / 859 lx on the calculation surface. The full Dialux report — luminaire layout plan, isolux contours, per-surface calculations — was issued to Unity Group so they could approve the plan with confidence and place the order knowing the lighting was code-correct from day one.
